Poetry Month Gone Dark: Paul DeThroe's Too Dark To Behold

Paul DeThroe

Too Dark to Behold © Paul DeThroe 2013

Nostradamus and Merlin begging on the corner
Grim Reaper dutifully creates another mourner
Unemployment, inflation, redistribution of wealth
Starving to death to pay for our health
Prophets were killed ‘cause only they knew
Rulers would dutifully set all Hell loose
Leaving us living lies of unjustifiable justice
Scarred and scared that they’re going to bust us
For some stupid shit, while the bad guy around the corner tortures and kills
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold

Pollution, radiation, oils spills in the seas
North Pole melts, no more Santa will be seen
Terrorizing terrorists grief stricken widows and kids
Intolerance ideology groomed again and again
No end to mass murderers bred by social bullying
Now calling for gun control; who is it fooling?
Knowing bad guys will still get weapons through their connections in the black market
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold

Apocalyptic Horsemen make society bleed
Demigod superhero is what Mother Earth needs
But that’s out of the cards and written in stone
Damn it, who cares, I just broke my smartphone
Some good things are left, but they're next on the list
The only planet we could live on, away we just pissed
In the cave drawings of this age’s survivors, we will be the bad guys, I'm afraid
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold

Poetry Month Gone Dark: Claire Marie Petty's Wakening

Claire Marie Petty's Wakening

Dreaming, wandering, walking when awake.
The darkness calls, the winds awake.
Mother earth opens her heart,
Mother earth feeds in the dark.

Nothing to hold, nothing to bare,
when wakening thoughts appear.
The darkness is not nice,
the darkness doesn't feed the light.

Wakening thoughts are not alike
as Mother earth feeds the night.
You do not hear as the winds of the night,
creep up without sight.

Wakening thoughts, wakening fears
keep all in the dark as the winds fall near.
You want to run, you want to hide
as your wakening fears soak up the night.

Recently married, Claire is both a paranormal investigator and a radio show host.

Poetry Month Gone Dark: Damien Reaper’s Other Side of Imagination

Damien Reaper is an actor and poet. He can be found @
Damien Reaper’s Other Side of Imagination

Why do you have those sad faces
Are you trapped in dark places
-
No one seems to believe in you
Your alone and don't know what to do
-
All I can say is don't pull the trigger
Inside you holds something bigger
-
Your wanting to live in the
Other side of Imagination
You know deep within you
It hurts like starvation
Watching dreams come alive
saves me from my Damnation
-
I'm lost within my Fantasy land
There dought I don't understand
-
So many say they care about me
they won't stop till I hang in a tree
-
Just living with my head in clouds
Takes away the dark shrouds
--
I have it inside myself
From the days I was child
Can't ever let that ever die
Or my life will be a lie
--
Your wanting to live in the
Other side of Imagination
You know deep within you
It hurts like starvation
Watching dreams come alive
saves me from my Damnation

Poetry Month Gone Dark: DS Scott's 'Feast' & 'The Reluctant Kill'

Feast - © D. S. Scott - 2015

I raise a glass and make a toast
To the greatest family on earth
At one and all, I have to boast
About each and everyone’s worth

We bless what lies before us all
This wondrous and tasty meal
I stand with pride and oh-so tall
Gazing upon our food with appeal

Joining with us all here tonight
He is our truly, wonderful guest
It is to my own great delight
To say he shall be, the very best

Now before we start to dig in
I have a request for you, Mother
Bring the wine so we may begin
Oh, and Sister go grab your Brother

As we are now all together here
It is time to end our friend’s life
Nana, would you be such a dear
And please hand me the carving knife?

I cut deep into his pale flesh
We all relish at the screams
The arising aroma is so fresh
And I watch as my family beams

Arterial blood splashes here and there
Now that I carve into his rump
To be honest, I do not want to share
But there is plenty, so juicy and plump

Now I tear into the chest cavity
I take my time picking around the bones
I break through the ribs and have a see
Next, pillaging every organ that he owns

So yes, maybe I am some great sinner
I know what I am doing is wrong
But I do so enjoy time for dinner
It is when we can all get along

Come now, what did I just say?
Can we not have a nice dinner for once?
That’s all I ask from you on this day
Or would you like to go on your own hunts?

Come on children, stop your fighting
There is plenty of it, to go around
What is before you, you should be biting
Or you know trouble, will be found

Finally, we find some rest and peace
Some pleasant quiet all around us
At last, the craziness has come to cease
And there is no more making any fuss

So, together we go about our feast
We shred and devour, all the meat
Outsiders would think each of us a beast
But a man and his family, have to eat

The Reluctant Kill - © D. S. Scott - 2015

One last time, I’m going to sin
I lie to myself and say it again
The demon’s voices are wailing
And my self-control is failing

I really cannot keep from it, anymore
The time has come to embrace the gore
Having nothing else left to do
There is no way to say no to you

As I get ready and start to prepare
I try to fight back my sense of care
I wish I could get better but it is too late
There is just no way to rehabilitate

Now with complete control over me
You gave me blinders, this is all I see
As much as I would like to go and fight it
I find myself enjoying it, more than a bit

I realize tonight will be number ten
Oh, what fun each family has been
I slash and shred until nothing is left
Finally, their lives will be my theft

Not until though, not until
There is so much to do, still
I have found that their crying is the worst
But at least it is them that do it first

I cannot, will not, show my pain
I do not have a conscience, I am insane
I must not show them, I too am weak
Or the reasoning behind this they will seek

Asking their questions, they cry out
They plead, beg for mercy and shout
I pretend their cries fall on deaf ears
When I, myself, have to fight back tears

I can feel my anger begin to turn
It is when my eyes start to burn
Over and over, the voices urge me on
My God, I wish I would want them gone

Taking my anger out on them
I go without plan and act on whim
This time the father tries to fight back
That is when I choose to attack

It is so much easier when they act first
Their simple submission is the worst
So I fight him and tie him to a chair
To be honest, it almost doesn’t seem fair

Next, I make him watch it all
I revel in each outcry and call
First, taking everything from his wife
I slice off her face with a kitchen knife

Then, comes the little daughter
I laughed along as I fought her
I like every noise that she makes
Her slit wrists pool like little lakes

The last is for their young son
I have to savor every last bit of fun
After cutting out his tongue to stop the squeal
His danger of drowning in the blood is real

As I listen to them screaming
I simply cannot keep from beaming
But I know my time is at an end
I am so lucky to have been able to attend

At last, I stab the man in the head
The finale to the show of the dead
I don’t always get along with the voices
Although, I do usually like their choices

Still, I have my few and slight regrets
The day will come when I will pay my debts
Seems I do have a conscience, after all of this
And I find myself, once again, lost in my abyss

For I am the one, with the reluctant kill
And yet I enjoy it, so much still
I’ll do it again and again, I swear
I will continue to do all I can bear

Poetry Month Gone Dark! Paulette Forshey's Crows

Crows by J.Paulette Forshey

They are here.
Lining, filling the bare branches of the winter’s trees.
Dark and noisy they caw to each other.
they call out to those that can hear.
they call out — to me.
Why?
They are the carriers of souls long since and yesterday past.
They bring these souls, these visitors to me.
Why?
At night when...I...should be safe in my slumber they come to me —
relatives, friends, passing acquaintances to sit and to chat over what has been.
Faces full of smiles, voices full of laughter,
they offer no threat only to chat.
Then, why do I feel so threatened?
Filled, am I with such hallow dreadfullness from their nightly visits.
By day the ebony birds come and go,
circling, circling, circling the house.
One leaves, one stays they are never gone,
calling, calling, watching, and calling.
Carriers of souls why are you here?
Do you forewarn?
Do you prepare?
Or are you here to only to past the time, to visit and to chat?

Paulette lives in a small Ohio town with her husband, a Princess Basset Hound and a Papillon who think they own her place. Her mornings belong to her writing, her days are spent loving their eight grandbabies, and her nights belong to the love of her life, her husband, the real inspiration for her heroes. She's a member of Romance Writers of America, Central Ohio Fiction Writers, Northeast Ohio Romance Writers, and the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal Chapter of RWA.

Poetry Month Gone Dark: Lyzzi Ellie Griffin's I'm Counting

Lyzzi Ellie Griffin's I'm Counting

I miss you
do you feel the same?
I try to think it through
and feel I'm the one to blame

I'm counting the minutes
when will you get home?
Can we reach forgiveness
before we start to roam

I'm counting the hours
love me again?
Can we get back what was ours?
At least as friends

I'm counting the days
are you?
maybe its a phase
but I don't think you do

I'm counting the years
remembering old times gone
I've lost many tears
since you moved on
I loved and hated you
in the same line
I had to change my point of view
to see that I was fine

It is upsetting
but I think I'm coming to terms
that the best is forgetting

Poetry Month Gone Dark! Coralie Rowe Serenades the Blood Moon

Coralie Rowe is new to the writing scene.  Previously being a baker by trade, now a mum. Rowe found an interest in writing poetry, and has been published in several horror anthologies recently.

Bloodied Ruination

You gaze upon a golden orb
Seeping red, from the edge
You cross yourself slowly
To your lord, do you pledge

Slyly, it awakens
Rising up in the night sky
Blood oozing slowly
As it makes its way high

The earth below tainted
A scarlet hued haze
Your eyes refuse to believe
This terrifying vista, on which you gaze

Everything around infiltrated
Bleeding with evil depravity
Soaking the soil below
Creating an abysmal red sea

Skeletal forms appear
Glowing with an eerie looking heat
With the light shed by the moon
Their bones appear to be, still covered with meat

These repugnant ruinations
Wade knee deep through the blood
Dragging their feet so slowly
In the malignant gore filled mud

You quickly close the shutters
Thinking that you will be safe
But moonlight touches everything
Your silhouette now wears an evil face

This shadow of darkness arises
To reap its blood from your veins
Drinking from you so deeply
Only a wrinkled husk of you remains

The crimson moon glows eerie
Its blood, painting the night sky
You will gaze upon it eternally
With your withered dried up eyes

Darkened Delights

A bloodied orb
Hangs in the night
Bringing forth creatures
Of darkened delights

Skeletal formations
With flesh hanging loose
A demonic hangman
Bearing an axe and noose

Blood sucking nymphs
Transform into bats
Withered old crones
With their brooms and hats

Beasts with gnashing teeth
And glazed extra eyes
Mournful apparitions
Filled with depths of despise

A blood harried moon
Awakens them all
And into the night
They haphazardly crawl

Heed The Night

Bloodfilled moon shines
Through blackened tree
Scarlet light glows
In the dark ebony

Bringing with it
The morbid ones
The darkened souls
With split tongues

Ushering them forth
From a hellish place
Guiding them from
An abysmal space

Leading them to
The livings land
Here they'll roam
A satanic band

Feeding on flesh
Refueling their need
Gnawing through bone
With hedonistic greed

Shredding apart
Ripping asunder
You and yours they'll
Ravage and plunder

Heed the sounds that
Come with the black
For you may well be
The one they take back

Slaughtered

Epic clouds of black and red
Blood and ashes from the dead

A bleak sun peers against the haze
Bodies amassed an endless grave

The suns light, here does not intrude
From black depths white bones protrude

A darkened pit of grief and terror
Souls trapped within for ever

Glowing eerily in the moonlit night
A morbid, twisted gruesome sight

Epic clouds of red and black
Blood and ashes a human stack
