Poetry Month Gone Dark: Paul DeThroe's Too Dark To Behold

Too Dark to Behold © Paul DeThroe 2013

Nostradamus and Merlin begging on the corner
Grim Reaper dutifully creates another mourner
Unemployment, inflation, redistribution of wealth
Starving to death to pay for our health
Prophets were killed ‘cause only they knew
Rulers would dutifully set all Hell loose
Leaving us living lies of unjustifiable justice
Scarred and scared that they’re going to bust us
For some stupid shit, while the bad guy around the corner tortures and kills
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold

Pollution, radiation, oils spills in the seas
North Pole melts, no more Santa will be seen
Terrorizing terrorists grief stricken widows and kids
Intolerance ideology groomed again and again
No end to mass murderers bred by social bullying
Now calling for gun control; who is it fooling?
Knowing bad guys will still get weapons through their connections in the black market
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold

Apocalyptic Horsemen make society bleed
Demigod superhero is what Mother Earth needs
But that’s out of the cards and written in stone
Damn it, who cares, I just broke my smartphone
Some good things are left, but they're next on the list
The only planet we could live on, away we just pissed
In the cave drawings of this age’s survivors, we will be the bad guys, I'm afraid
This world is too goddamned dark
Too Dark to Behold
